I felt his other hand sear hot against my cheek. He bent his head, and in a voice that Jack couldn’t hear, said, “When you came down the stairs, and fell into me, that was the moment.” Then his lips pressed against mine.

About This Quote

In the book, "Gone with the Wind," by Margaret Mitchell, Scarlett O'Hara was on her way to an evening with her friend Ashley Wilkes. As they left the house, there was a bomb explosion on the porch of a building. Scarlett, Ashley and Mrs. Wilkes were all blown off of their feet.

Scarlett was able to get up and ran into a barn to hide from the gunfire that was going on. When she returned from the barn, she found that her younger sister, Suellen, had been killed in the explosion. In the aftermath of the explosion, Scarlett became overwhelmed with grief for her sister.

Her grief caused her to give up on life and succumb to depression. When she returned from hiding in the barn, she found that Rhett Butler had been shot and killed by another member of his party. Rhett had been trying to protect Scarlett and his party when he was shot.

He died in her arms. When she and Rhett were in the barn, they kissed each other in a moment of passion and true love. They died together in each other's arms because they were in love and there was no one else they needed to spend time with or be with when their lives came to an end.
